More than 120 nations hold free public performances in parks, stadiums, and other public spaces to mark World Music Day.

Every year on June 21, World Music Day honours artists and singers for the gift of music, which gives life to everything and provides flight to the imagination. For exceptional musicians, music serves as a mediator. The appropriate music may work miracles for people. Every region in India has its own distinctive musical style because it is a country of diverse civilizations.

HISTORY OF WORLD MUSIC DAY:

June 21 is World Music Day, commonly known as Fete de la Musique. A music festival, it got its start in France in 1982. Another theory holds that American singer Joel Cohen suggested an all-night music festival to honour the start of the summer solstice in France in 1976. Ever since, June 21 has been designated as World Music Day.

On this day, musicians perform for free at parks, museums, train stations, and castles, among other places. As nations around the world commemorate the day in their own distinctive ways, World Music Day has spread to become a global phenomenon.

EVENTS TAKING PLACE ON WORLD MUSIC DAY AROUND THE WORLD:

1) Paris’s Fête de la Musique festivities

Stages appear all over Paris’s major squares and parks for World Music Day, also known as Fête de la Musique. For this special night, bands, musicians, and artists get together to play a variety of music. Some routes of public transportation run 24/7 and provide reduced fares.

2) 36-piece orchestra

For three performances on World Music Day 2022, the Mumbai (India) based National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) Symphony Orchestra will bring a 36-piece orchestra. The performances take place from June 17 through June 19.

3) Celebrations of the Fête de la Musique in Johannesburg

The Fête de la Musique (FDLM), now in its eleventh year, will be held this year by the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS).

On June 18, the event will be held concurrently at four locations in and around Johannesburg and Soweto. Admission is free. 27 performers will perform during the events across six stages.

4) A fest for all in Bangalore, India

After the COVID-19 vacation, Fête de la Musique is returning in Bangalore to give musicians a free platform. The music festival, with the theme “Back To Life,” starts on June 17 and runs through the next week. About 45 musicians are scheduled to play at the three venues where it will be presented.

5) Miami’s Make Music Day

In America, Make Music Day falls on the same day as World Music Day. Make Music Miami, a free musical event on June 21, is planned for this unique occasion and will feature performances across the city on streets, sidewalks, beaches, and parks.

6) Kolkata Music Festival

The piano-vocalist combo Sourendro-Soumyojit will perform at their yearly World Music Day event in Kolkata, India. The festival has been organised by the pair since 2010, and this year the City of Joy will host a diverse lineup of performers. On June 21, the performance will take place, and Lata Mangeshkar, who passed away earlier this year, will get particular honour.
