Soon after his live performance at Kolkata
Today the fans of Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, woke up to this heartbreaking news today that he passed away soon after his live performance at a concert by Gurudas College at south Kolkata’s Nazrul Mancha. He was 53.
Doctors have however said they suspected cardiac arrest to be the cause of the death. The sudden demise of the singer left the country shocked. KK was one of the most talented singers that Indian Music Industry has produced. He will be remembered through his songs.
“Saddened by the untimely demise of noted singer Krishnakumar Kunnath popularly known as KK. His songs reflected a wide range of emotions and struck a chord with people of all age groups. We will always remember him through his songs. Condolences to his family and fans. Om Shanti,” Prime Minister Modi tweeted.
Reports suggest, KK felt uncomfortable throughout the performance, complaining about the heat and brightness of the lights. The auditorium’s air conditioning was also said to be broken. He said he felt cold when the air conditioner was turned on on his way to the motel. During the performance, he also took a break. According to reports, there was a large crowd at his event, which the police had to manage with spraying fire extinguishers.
Watch his final moments on the stage before he is being taken away from the Nazrul Mancha auditorium in South Kolkata on 31st May 2022. His health began to deteriorate soon after he finished his performance and could not survive the cardiac arrest on his way to the hospital.
Before breaking into Indian cinema, KK sung 3,500 jingles for TV commercials across 11 languages. During the 1999 Cricket World Cup, he sung in the song “Josh of India” in support of the Indian cricket team.
Sony Music had just opened its doors in India in 1999, and they were ready to introduce a new talent. KK was chosen as the new performer, and his debut solo album, Pal, was released with songs composed by Lesle Lewis of Colonial Cousins. The tracks “Aap Ki Dua,” “Yaaron,” and the title tune “Pal” quickly became popular among young people and topped the music charts. The songs “Pal” and “Yaaron” became popular parting anthems for students. Pal was KK’s debut album under Sony Music, and he won the Screen Award for Best Singer for it.
Born on 23-Aug-1968, KK sang more than 1000 songs in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Bengali, Assamese and Gujarati languages. KK emphasized that it is not important for a singer’s face to be prominently seen, rather more importantlt “a singer must be heard.” He believed.
Just like the other KK (Kishore Kumar), KK had never undergone any formal training in music.
